30.09.2008 Live CO2 broadcast from entry in MPG marathon

Live_CO2_BroadcastAn innovative new way of measuring a vehicle’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is to be demonstrated during this year’s MPG Marathon economy run.

Eco-LogTM is a system developed by emissions specialists Lysanda that reports results in real time. The company, working with Canadian Telematics expert WebTech Wireless, will show how their Eco-LogTM can be used as a tool to help drivers instantly improve their fuel economy by 20% or more and monitor CO2 emissions on the move.

Fitted to an otherwise standard Volvo S40 D5 saloon and transmitting data every minute, stage by stage, via a live feed to websites covering the marathon, Eco-LogTM can identify where and how driver behaviour affects vehicle performance. The Volvo will be driven by ex-Top Gear presenter Chris Goffey and David Coates, Sales Manager of Lysanda, and competing in the class for cars at 160g/km of CO2 and over.

Simon Harris, Marketing Director at Lysanda, said: “We are entering our vehicle into the marathon as an exercise in demonstrating the practical application of the Eco-LogTM system. The results it produces will be of particular interest to anyone concerned with reducing fuel costs – both for passenger cars or commercial vehicles – as the system can be fitted to most production vehicles without any modification.”

Eco-LogTM gathers data about the way a car is being operated while in use. This information can be displayed to the driver or transmitted back to a fleet management
